MEET at IceTec

MEET at IceTec

Following the World Geothermal Congress 2021, held at Harpa in Reykjavík, IceTec hosted the MEET project team for a three-day project meeting, from October 28th to 30th, 2021.

Twenty-four international project participants travelled to Iceland to attend meetings, where the past year of the project was reviewed and the final months were planned. Several topics were addressed, since a lot had happened since the group last met in person.

Results of geological measurements and corrosion tests and a database of potential geothermal areas in Europe, were covered at the meeting, along with several other topics. In addition, a special issue of the journal Geosciences that will be dedicated to the MEET project and published at the end of the year, was discussed, along with the over twenty scientific articles that will be published in the issue.

On Thursday, meetings began early in the day at IceTec. In the afternoon, the group went on an excursion to Krauma in Borgarfjörður, where IceTec, together with its partner company, Enogia, has installed a small ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) geothermal power plant. This plant generates electricity from the hot water of Deildartunguhver hot spring, before it flows into the geothermal baths at Krauma.

The meetings concluded on Saturday. Later that evening, the international guests were delighted, as the sky put on a spectacular display of strong and beautiful northern lights. They returned to their homes with some wonderful memories and solid project result.
